The Reason Behind Our Work

Trauma-Informed

We go beyond behavior change to address the emotional and relational roots of addiction, dysfunction, and shame.

Sex-Positive & Inclusive

We welcome all identities, orientations, and relationship structures. Affirming care isn’t a tagline — it’s the foundation.

Therapy That Works in Real Life

We don’t rely on cookie-cutter protocols. Our approach is grounded in research, clinical experience, and the understanding that healing is personal and complex.

A Therapy Practice Built to Fill a Gap

Too many people struggling with addiction, intimacy, or identity are met with shame or surface-level solutions. Vantage Point Counseling Services was created to change that. What started as one therapist’s search for better answers has grown into a team of clinicians who believe that real healing happens when we address trauma, sexuality, and relationships together — with honesty, compassion, and deep respect for the courage it takes to seek help.

We know what it’s like to feel stuck, unseen, or like no one is connecting the dots. That’s why we offer therapy that goes deeper — therapy that understands how trauma, sex, relationships, and identity all intersect. We work with people who want more than just coping skills. They’re ready for meaningful connection, lasting change, and a life that feels more whole.

Our Story

Michael Salas began his clinical work in 2008 at an intensive outpatient program for substance use. Early on, he noticed something missing. Many clients were also struggling with pornography, sexual compulsivity, and shame around intimacy — but those issues weren’t being addressed in treatment.

That gap led him to pursue certification as a Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). But as an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Michael recognized that many traditional approaches carried moral overtones and often ignored the complexity of identity and desire. He wanted something more affirming, trauma-informed, and rooted in people’s real experiences.

He went on to deepen his training in sexuality, relationships, and trauma — eventually earning a doctorate focused on how men experience sexual dysfunction. What he found reflected what he’d seen in practice: men often get stuck in treatment, overlooked by models that treat dysfunction as mechanical rather than deeply human.

The practice grew from there. In 2015, Zach Ramsey and Phillip McCulley joined, bringing even more depth to our work in addiction recovery and affirming care. Their contributions have shaped the heart of who we are. Today, our team continues to grow — united by a shared commitment to helping people explore the intersections of trauma, identity, intimacy, and recovery. We believe therapy should honor the whole person, not just treat symptoms.
